I came to Queen’s MBA Program because ...

After 7 years working in records and information management at Ontario’s largest health regulator, my career had reached a plateau. Rather than simply switching jobs, I made the difficult decision to step away to re-evaluate my goals. In addition to re-evaluating my goals, I focused on developing new skills and experiences – during my time away, I completed a Certificate in Project Management, I taught yoga, and I ran my own yoga start-up for people with limited fitness and mobility.

As a mother to a young child and given that I had been out of the formal workforce for a couple of years, the Queen’s MBA was particularly attractive to me because of the program’s unrivalled coaching support, its commitment to promoting diversity and women in business, and its one-year format. Additionally, I was looking for a program that would both teach me the fundamentals of business and provide opportunities to apply my new knowledge and skills.

The extensive resources available at the Smith School of Business mean that the sky’s the limit – opportunities to develop your strengths and expand your horizon are everywhere, including through the supportive global alumni network. Prior to coming to Kingston, I had the pleasure of meeting several alumni, who took the time and care to answer my questions candidly, and who continue to be a source of support today. The Queen’s MBA program has shown that it is aligned with its values, and I feel honoured to be a part of this community.
