I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

I chose the Smith MBA because as I considered MBA programs, I looked for one that would strengthen my business and leadership skills while allowing me to build on my understanding of psychology and social impact. Smith stood out to me for its team-based learning model, integrated curriculum and strong emphasis on leadership development. Moreover, the other aspect that appealed to me was the small and close-knit cohort, which felt like a community, and everyone was always ready to help and uplift you.

If I could go back and give myself advice one year ago, it would be to trust the process sooner and lean into uncertainty. The MBA is less about having a perfectly defined plan on day one and more about being open to exploration, feedback and growth.

One best practice I would offer to prospective applicants from nontraditional backgrounds, such as nonprofit work or psychology, is especially important to frame your experience as a strength and to demonstrate how it adds a valuable perspective to classroom discussions and team-based learning.

From my MBA experience, I am trying to translate my background in psychology into scalable organizational leadership. While my psychology foundation allows me to understand 'the why' behind human behaviour, I am seeking the Smith MBA to master 'the how' of business—specifically, financial modelling, data-driven decision-making and macro-strategy. I value a diverse cohort that will challenge my perspectives and refine my ability to lead across different sectors.

My career goal is to drive systemic change at the intersection of human behaviour and organizational efficiency. I am currently exploring two high-impact paths where my psychology background provides a unique competitive advantage: Healthcare Consulting and Nonprofit Executive Leadership. I am interested in helping health systems navigate Change Management and Program Strategy, focusing on how behavioural insights can optimize patient outcomes and workforce resilience. Alternatively, I am also drawn to leadership roles within mission-driven organizations where I can apply Impact Measurement and Organizational Development to ensure social missions are supported by robust, sustainable business models.

Whether I am advising a healthcare system as a consultant or steering a nonprofit as an executive, the Smith MBA is the essential bridge. It will equip me with the skills and practical experience needed to lead organizations that are as operationally sound as they are socially impactful.
