I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

I chose the Smith MBA for its strong career support and reputation, but once I arrived, I realized it is the warmth of the community, the approachable faculty and the program staff’s genuine willingness to help that truly set the school apart.

Before the MBA, I worked for three years as a UI/UX Designer in the HR tech space, with additional experience in marketing. While I’ve loved designing user experiences, I am now intentionally pivoting toward product or project management roles where I can combine strategy, collaboration and execution at a broader level. More than anything, I came to Smith to push myself beyond what felt comfortable.

Running for Director of Marketing and Communications on the Student Executive Council was one of those uncomfortable decisions. It meant putting myself out there in a way I had not before. Now, having stepped into the role, I already feel closer to my goal of gaining meaningful leadership experience. Supporting the President and Vice President’s vision around community, clubs and communication allows me to contribute strategically while building something lasting for our cohort.

If I could offer advice to a prospective applicant, it would be not to be afraid of the move. I was hesitant to relocate to Kingston, away from everything familiar. But the faculty at Smith truly feels like family, and the support system here makes taking that leap not only manageable but transformative. Just as importantly, your cohort becomes part of that support system. Everyone is navigating the same transition, and there is a strong sense that you are in it together.
