I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...
the moment I walked into Goodes Hall for my interview, I felt welcomed, involved and like I truly fit in. Everyone was engaged, ambitious and grounded. I remember leaving that day feeling refreshed and excited, knowing I wanted to be part of this community. Coming from a scientific background, I was looking for a program that would stretch me technically, while also shaping me as a leader. Smith’s emphasis on team-based learning, leadership development and community stood out long before I visited, and it resonated even more after experiencing it in person.
The advice I would give myself one year ago would be to trust the desire for growth sooner. I spent time questioning whether I was ready. In reality, I only felt ready once I showed up. Speaking with students, faculty and staff made it clear that no one ever feels completely prepared, but you grow into it when the moment demands it.
Over the course of my year at Smith, I hope to sharpen my financial fluency, expand the way I think about complex problems and build the confidence to present effectively among peers and senior leaders. Stepping outside my comfort zone of technical expertise will be difficult, but necessary. Long term, I aim to integrate strong business skills with my scientific background to help translate innovation into meaningful, real-world impact.
