I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

As a current orthopedic surgery resident, my primary goal in pursuing an MBA was to develop a deeper understanding of the business and leadership side of healthcare. As I researched, applied to and visited various MBA programs, I was quickly drawn to Smith School of Business for several reasons. Smith offers a well-rounded program that ensures graduates leave not only with strong business fundamentals but also as more confident and effective leaders through its team-based learning model.

The strength and prestige of the Smith name became especially clear through conversations with current students and alumni. What stood out to me was Smith’s emphasis on more than just academic excellence, as there is a deliberate focus on fostering a warm, collaborative culture and a strong sense of community. I quickly realized that the value of the MBA experience extends beyond coursework to include the people, conversations and opportunities outside the classroom. Smith places meaningful emphasis on developing soft skills that unlock leadership potential, while also cultivating a tight-knit class and alumni network made up of diverse, driven individuals.

Ultimately, I hope to use my Smith MBA to complement my career as an orthopedic surgeon in several ways. My long-term goals include owning and managing an orthopedic healthcare clinic, pursuing part-time healthcare consulting and leveraging the MBA/MScHQ dual degree to take on leadership roles within hospital systems.
