I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

While my journey to this role as MBA Candidate may have been unconventional, I was gravitated towards the MBA to hang up my stethoscope and tackle healthcare from a leadership standpoint. As a previous nurse, I was drawn to this program with the hopes of driving change beyond the bedside.

The Smith School of Business intrigued me for several reasons, one being the team-based approach. The small cohort and team-centred projects simulate environments likely to mimic our future careers. The support from the program administration team and my classmates is unmatched as I genuinely feel seen as an individual rather than another student in the crowd. Add the career coaching and the vast network Smith has acquired; the choice made perfect sense.

If I could speak to myself a year ago today, I would say to trust in your skills. Becoming a Smith MBA from a different background doesn’t take away from any value you can bring to the table; in fact, it may enhance it.

I advise aspiring Smith MBA students going through the application process to stay true to who they are. Own your objectives and be devoted to your goals. Throughout the year, I want to grow as a leader by learning to be a helpful team player. I hope to apply these skills as a leader in the healthcare field, helping make a difference in the industry that made me who I am today.
