I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

I was obsessed with the idea of doing a team-based MBA. As an engineer, I have been involved with various agile teams. I saw first-hand that a great team can be extremely valuable to an organization, which is why I chose the Smith Full-time MBA.

Queen’s University has a beautiful campus, and Kingston is a lovely city. I did my undergraduate studies at Queen’s, so it was an easy sell for me. If I could go back one year, the advice that I would give myself would be to start studying for the GMAT earlier. Building those effective, early study habits would have made me much more prepared.

Best practices for an applicant are to ask others for help. I could not have gotten into the Smith MBA without leveraging the assistance of various key people in my life, all of which are very close to me.

My primary goal as an MBA student is to become a more empathetic leader. Secondly, I want to build on my interpersonal skills as well as my business acumen. Strengthening my business fundamentals will mesh well with my engineering background. Upon graduation, my objective is to take my newly acquired skills to the mining/metals industry, where I can significantly impact the industry. My ideal position would be as a Project Manager for a Vancouver-based mining/metals firm.

  • Hometown: Chilliwack, BC
