I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

why not now? That was the question I pondered in December 2018 before deciding to pursue an MBA at one of Canada’s top business schools. The more I asked myself this question, the clearer the decision became. At that moment, I decided that I was going to fulfill my dream of getting an MBA, but what school should I choose?

I began my research of schools, but very early into the process, I came to know that I wanted to attend the Smith School of Business at Queen’s. You can compare all types of metrics between the top Canadian business schools, but one thing that made Smith stand above all others was its unique culture. I knew it had the best employment outcomes for MBAs in Canada and a world-class faculty, but I didn’t realize that the school had built a culture around teamwork and deep personal connections. The small class size ensured that I was going to connect with various people on a personal basis and form friendships that would last a lifetime. No metric can measure that.

If I could go back one year ago, I’d tell myself to trust the process that Smith School of Business has put in place. They know what they’re doing. A member of the Admissions Committee once told me that the committee admits “people, not transcripts.” Now that I’m here, I understand what that means, as I have made 80 new friends that span the globe. When you select the Smith MBA, you are not only benefiting from a world-class faculty; you are benefiting from being surrounded by other high performing classmates who offer endless learning opportunities.

I hope to cultivate my Smith experience to be able to work in the consulting industry at one of the top strategy firms. I have only just begun my MBA journey; however, I can already see that my decision to take that leap of faith back in December 2018 was the best decision of my life.
