I came to the Full-time MBA at Smith School of Business because ...

of the warmth and support I received during the application process. I spoke to another Canadian MBA program that was lukewarm towards me and implied that I should wait a few years before doing my MBA. In contrast, my application advisor at Smith showed confidence in me and encouraged me to apply. During the entire process, I felt like I had the support and encouragement of the entire Smith community. The MBA program administration staff put me at ease and reassured me of my value when they provided me with an offer of admission.

After being admitted, I was invited to visit the campus and given tours by student ambassadors. The current students were extremely friendly to me and gave me their unique perspectives on the Smith experience. I believe that I now must give back to the next class of Smith MBA students by serving as a student ambassador myself.

One piece of advice I would give to future applicants is not to get too hung up on any weakness on their application. Smith looks at each applicant holistically and each admitted student has their strengths and weaknesses. Some people on the internet talk about “average” or “cutoff” to get into certain programs and those speculations merely discourage otherwise qualified candidates from applying. I hope to leverage the Smith MBA experience to transition into a career in management consulting, so I can use my technical and soft skills to make a greater impact.
