Erica Hamel and Joshua Hamilton, both MBA, got engaged in February in the mountains of San Miguel de Allende, Mexico. Their wedding is planned for September 2017 at a family cottage in Muskoka, Ont.

Erik Jensen, MMA, BSc’99, MSc’04, PhD’13, is celebrating his one-year anniversary as an analytics consultant at the Toronto office of Pricing Solutions, a global pricing-strategy and -research consulting firm. In April, he presented some innovative modeling work from a recent project in the food-service industry at the INFORMS Business Analytics conference in Las Vegas.

Marja Hillis, EMBA-Americas, was awarded Most Innovative CEO in the Waste Management Industry 2016 by Business Worldwide Magazine. She is the owner and CEO of Molok North America Ltd. in Canada and sits on the board of directors at Molok Ltd. in Finland. The company manufactures containers for waste, recyclables, organics, used cooking oil and used clothing. The 2016 Global Corporate Excellence Awards seek to identify and honour the most respected companies and their C-level executives, while recognizing and rewarding outstanding success, innovation and ethics across international business and finance communities.

Shashank Krishnamurthy MBA, MMA, was honored by Poets & Quants as one of 2016’s MBAs to Watch. The list was comprised of 97 individuals drawn from nominations submitted by more than 60 leading international MBA programs, with candidates evaluated on the calibre of their extracurricular leadership, professional achievements and personal insightfulness.

Dave M. Hooge, EMBA, President and General Manager of Calgary’s Stepper Custom Homes, received the George Frieser Award, the highest accolade of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association (CHBA) - Alberta. The award recognizes leadership, dedication and outstanding long-time service at the provincial level. As a long-time volunteer with the association, Dave’s extensive service includes terms as president of both CHBA Calgary Region and CHBA Alberta. While in the latter position, from 2012 to 2013, Dave was a driving force behind a stronger focus on safety initiatives, and his legacy can be seen today in programs such as Building to SECOR/COR, which is helping member companies develop recognized safety programs.

Vanesa V. Cotlar, BCom, let us know that she’s now taking part in Remote Year, a program that brings together a group of international professionals to travel and work remotely for a year. She is visiting 12 cities over the course of 12 months and experiencing life as a digital nomad while on leave from Monitor Deloitte. She’s currently in Asia, and will continue on to Africa, Europe and South America during the year.

Jake Dancyger, BCom, reports that he joined Element AI, a Canadian artificial intelligence startup, in January. He’s responsible for delivering industry visions of AI to executives, building roadmaps of priority AI-use cases and articulating concepts for AI solution development. He invites Smith alumni to connect with him on LinkedIn for a chat.

Amélie St-Onge Tousignant, AMBA, was recently appointed to the position of regional manager for Canada at Micromine Ltd., a mining software company headquartered in Perth, Australia. Amélie works from the company’s Canadian head office in Vancouver. She’s in the process of opening a second office in Toronto to service the eastern Canadian market. Amélie spent the past nine years with Export Development Canada and occupied a variety of positions within that organization across Canada and internationally.
