Eligibility Requirements and Supporting Documents

To be considered for admission, PhD students typically have an A average in a discipline which is related to the applicant’s field of interest and will meet the following criteria:

  1. Official transcripts from all universities attended.
  2. A minimum GMAT test score in the 85th percentile (approximately 640), or a GRE test approximately 160 Verbal Reasoning and 148 Quantitative Reasoning.
  3. Required if English is not your first language, one of three English tests.

    A IELTS minimum overall score of 7, preferred overall score of 8. TOEFL minimum overall score of 88, preferred score of 100 and above. PTE a minimum score of 65, preferred score of 70.

    Any applicant whose first language is not English, but who, within the 12 month period prior to the month of application, has studied for at least one complete year at a post-secondary institution where English is the official language of instruction may apply for a waiver. View the criteria and waiver instructions.

  4. Two academic referees familiar with your research and academic potential.
  5. Resume.
  6. Statement of Purpose.

How to Apply

  1. Upload a copy of your official transcripts to your online application for all academic institutions attended. All applicants accepted into the program will be required to send hard copy official transcripts and degree certificates in the University sealed envelope.

  2. GMAT official scores, release to Queen’s University using Code 0279 for PhD applications and we will print a copy for your file. GRE official scores can be printed from the ETS website if released to Code 0949.
  3. English Proficiency test:
    To release a TOEFL test result from the ETS website, use code 0279-01. To release an IELTS or PTE test, please arrange have the Test Centre mail the result to:

  4. Electronic reference forms will be sent to your referees upon submission of your online application and application fee. Please alert your referees these forms will be sent to them. They will be required to complete their form and submit it back to our department.
  5. Please email your resume to the PhD department at the address below.

  6. Provide your Statement of Purpose with your online application or email it to your Graduate Assistant. This statement should include your career goals, research interests, and your related academic field of interest background.

The Admissions Committee

Tuition Fees

Tuition fees are approximately $7,599 CDN per year for domestic students and $14,724 CDN per year for International students. Please follow ‘Graduate and Professional Program Fee Schedule’ from the School of Graduate Studies.
