Chen, Chialin

Associate Professor

Chialin Chen is an Associate Professor in Operations Management and Technology at Smith School of Business of Queen’s University. He received his B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from National Taiwan University, M.S. degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering/Technology and Policy from MIT, and Ph.D. in Business Administration from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Chialin’s teaching interests are in New Product and Technology Innovation, Production and Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, and Technology and Operations Strategy. Prior to joining Smith School of Business, he was an Assistant Professor at Wilfrid Laurier University and an Adjunct Professor at University of Waterloo. He was the recipient of Excellent Teacher Award from University of Illinois and Dean’s Recognition of Teaching Excellence from Wilfrid Laurier University.

Chialin’s research interests include New Product Design and Technology Innovation, Sustainable Operations, Supply Chain Management, and Game Theory and Competitive Strategy. He has been the principal investigator of three 5-year Discovery Grants from Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and the co-investigator of a Partnership Development Grant from Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) and two research grants from National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSF China). Chialin is currently an Associate Editor for OMEGA – The International Journal of Management Science. He also serves on the editorial boards of IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, International Journal of Service and Operations Management, and International Journal of Operations Research and Information Systems. His papers have been published in several journals including Management Science, Production and Operations Management, Transportation Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, OMEGA, and European Journal of Operational Research.
