Term Adjunct Position

Term Adjunct - COMM 461 - Data Science for Business

A term adjunct position is open at the Smith School of Business for an instructor to teach at our main campus in a lecture-style undergraduate course in the Commerce program. The position is to teach Data Science for Business, Comm 461, which is a winter term course. The course will be offered from January 2023 until April 2023. The successful applicant will be required to teach 100% of one (1) section of COMM 461 with an anticipated enrolment of 55 students per section. The current schedule for the weekly classes are Tuesday 4:00pm to 5:20pm and Thursday 2:30pm to 3:50pm.


Qualifications include: a Master’s degree or Ph.D., several years of related experience; and experience teaching university courses.

The course is described as follows:

The main goal of this course is to introduce data as one of the main business assets in the modern digital economy and data science tools as essential parts of the competitive strategy of the enterprise. The course will present a systematic view of analytics starting with descriptive for the essential understanding of the data, moving on to predictive to identify trends and opportunities, and completing the view with prescriptive to arrive at data driven decisions.

Prerequisite for students - COMM 162

This course is restricted to students enrolled in the 2nd, 3rd or 4th year of the Commerce program.


Smith offers a competitive salary package. The minimum starting salary for a term adjunct teaching one section of a course in our Commerce program is $10,929.87, which excludes vacation pay and lieu of benefits pay. This salary is pro-rated based on course credit. The actual salary will be commensurate with skill and experience.
