Janice McDonald

Janice McDonald is an award-winning entrepreneur, author, director, and speaker. She is the Founder of The Beacon Agency and Co-Founder of This Space Works. WIT-LA awarded her Global Trade Ambassador for Canada in 2017 and she was selected as on the 50 most inspiring women in technology in Canada in 2018. She is Startup Canada's Ambassador for Women Entrepreneurs and host of the #THRIVE podcast. She has co-authored two national studies on women entrepreneurs in Canada - on risk - released in 2016 and on innovation - released in 2018. She was awarded Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women four years in a row and inducted into the WXN Hall of Fame in 2016.

In 2018, Janice was named one of the first-ever Canadian recipients of an Inspiring FIfty Award. She is featured in Canada 150 Women, a book released in 2017 on conversations with leaders, champions, and luminaries. She is also featured in ‘Your Turn: Powerful Thoughts from Today’s Women to the Next,’ published in 2017. She also received WCT’s Chairs Award of Distinction in 2016. Janice was awarded a World of Difference 100 Award in Washington from TIAW and a National Leadership Award from CWC in 2011.


Janice is regularly invited to speak around the world including at The Milken Institute's Global Conference in 2018 where she represented Canada and at Microsoft at Silicon Valley Forum’s Women in Tech Festival in 2017. Janice represented Canada at the APEC Workshops in Vietnam in 2017 and presented on entrepreneurship as well as keynoting conferences around the world.

Janice’s TEDx talk has been viewed over 15,000 times and counting.


Janice co-authored a ground-breaking national study: A Force to Reckon With: Women, Entrepreneurs and Risk with Carleton University in 2016, thanks to the support of BMO. A follow-up study, Everywhere, Everyday Innovation: Women Entrepreneurs and Innovation was published in 2018.
