Jim Leech

Jim Leech recently retired as President and CEO of the Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan, one of the largest pension funds in the world. In 2014 Mr. Leech was Special Advisor to the Ontario Minister of Finance concerning electricity sector pension sustainability. He chairs the Toronto General and Western Hospital Foundation, is a board member of the MasterCard Foundation, was a founding director of Right To Play International and serves as Honorary Colonel of 32 Signal Regiment, Canadian Armed Forces. He recently co-authored The Third Rail, Confronting our Pension Failures, a best-selling book that was a finalist for the Donner Award for contribution to Canadian public policy and was recipient of the 2013-2014 Best Business Book Award.

In 2010, Mr. Leech was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee medal in recognition of his work with the True Patriot Love Foundation in support of Canadian military families. Recently, he was a member of Canada’s largest expedition to ski to the magnetic north pole to raise awareness and funds for Canadian military veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Over his career, Mr. Leech has received many honours including: Champion of Public Education by The Learning Partnership; CEO Award of Excellence in Communications by the Canadian Public Relations Society; the Corporate Social Responsibility Award by the US/Canadian Foreign Policy Association; and Lifetime Achievement Award from the Niagara Institutional Dialogue.

Mr. Leech was invested as a Member of the Order of Canada for his for contributions as an innovator in pension management, for his writings on the subject of retirement funding, and for his community involvement.

Mr. Leech holds a B.Sc. (Hons. Math and Physics) from the Royal Military College of Canada and an MBA from Queen's University. He is also a graduate of the Institute of Corporate Directors.
