Kathy Scales

Kathy is a Senior Advisor on Energy and Climate Change Policy within the Sustainability Group at Suncor Energy. The strategic work of the Energy & Climate Change Policy team is focused on ensuring the long term sustainable development of Suncor’s oil sands resources, as well as Suncor’s diverse range of energy assets, including natural gas, refining & marketing, offshore oil, wind energy, biofuels and refining. Kathy works with senior management of the company to understand the potential impact of new greenhouse gas regulations on Suncor’s businesses and their plans for future growth.

Kathy has been with Suncor, formerly Petro-Canada, since graduating with a B.Sc. in Geology from Queen's University in 1978. Kathy has been an active member of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists, including being elected as President of the Society in 1999. Kathy has been on the Queen’s Geology Council for the past 5 years, which raises funds for the Field Studies Endowment Fund, and volunteers with a local environmental group focused on maintaining green spaces in Rocky View County.
