Four years of study is required 1949

Milestone 1949

At the close of the decade, Senior Matriculation followed by four years of study were required in the Commerce program. There were several reasons for this decision - the main one being the need in business for a broader education, as well as good knowledge of specialized skills. A second reason suggested by the Director was: "If a Commerce student is to acquire the thinking habits of a university trained man and retain these habits after he enters the world of business, he must be subjected to the intellectual discipline of a university for a longer period." A final reason was generated by the school of Commerce and Administration. They felt that they should conform to other honours courses offered by the Faculty of Arts which covered four years work from Senior Matriculation.
