Blue Sky EDII Funding Approved

March 1, 2021

From a speaker series podcast and film screening to equity and diversity education resources and teaching materials, the first Blue Sky EDII Fund proposals have been approved. The committee selected initiatives that foster an inclusive and safe academic and work environment in which students, staff and faculty possess a strong sense of belonging, and are empowered to thrive.

Seven projects are now underway:

  • Indigenous Knowledge and Initiatives resource portal
  • Introduction to Commerce (COMM 101) teaching materials
  • Smith Equity Library
  • Keynote speech and discussion with Joze Piranian on overcoming adversity
  • EDII speaker series podcast
  • Speaker series and education workshops
  • Screening and discussion of the award-winning film, Bias

Funding for an additional project proposing an in-person event in 2021 has been delayed due to COVID restrictions around gatherings.

Smith established the Blue Sky EDII Fund in November 2020 to support teams of students, faculty and staff undertaking projects and initiatives that support diversity, inclusion and indigenization, and align with Smith’s EDII Pledge and Commitment.

The next deadline for submissions is July 5. Visit Smith’s Blue Sky EDII Fund page for the application form and to learn more about selection criteria.
